Quick glimpse of this mornings keynote at PDC 2005

Bill Gates put on a good keynote this morning along with Jim Alchin. This was probably the first PDC where Alchin got a warm applause for some of the things he was showing off. Microsoft is really pushing “rich” user experiences at the client side through the use of Windows Presentation Foundation (also available in a Lite format that is supposed to be cross platform and cross browser). Two decent photos I managed to get of Gates and Alchin follow:

Additionally, during the demos of WPF cross platform capabilities they showed an application demo using WPF that ran on a very slick Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone the i-Mate JASJAR. Alchin then asked the audience how would they like to have such a cool phone and then announced that MS had struck a deal to allow PDC attendees to purchase the phone for $149 while their supplies of the phone lasted. Bear in mind this phone sells for around $1149 online so this was an astounding deal!

If your viewing this site with Internet Explorer it may not look correct because IE is horrible about following W3C web standards properly or consistently. I suggest you try browsing the Internet with Firefox. It is much better and not as vulnerable to security flaws as IE can be.
